Gary Martin – 1st Vice President

Gary Martin was introduced to coaching soccer and hockey late in the 1980’s by two long-time volunteer coaches. As a young soccer player and hockey player his transition to coaching was easy. Since then he has learned and developed his skills as a way to give back to the sports community as a hockey coach, a soccer coach, referee, referee instructor, and Provincial Committee member.

Gary has devoted countless hours to Canada Games and has donated many hours to a multitude of sports at both the Canada Summer and Winter games, serving as mission staff for many years, 2005 -2017. Currently, Gary is serving as Chef de Mission staff for the 2022 Niagara Falls Summer games, and was recently appointed as a director to the PowerPlex Sports Centre board. He will serve as Assistant Chef de Mission for the 2023 Winter games in Prince Edward Island.

Volunteering for organizations, such as Sport NL, has allowed Gary to learn that leadership is an integral part of sport development in the province and that inclusion and diversity are important to the success of the organization.
