Mrs. Edith Dean has lived all of her life in Grand Falls Windsor and was an all around athlete participating in badminton, basketball, curling and bowling throughout her early years. When the bowling lanes closed in the mid sixties a friend suggested she try golf and immediately she was hooked. Hitting the irons came easy to Mrs. Dean but the woods were a challenge which she finally mastered with the help of John Gaudet, the pro at the Grand Falls Club.
As she learned the game, she also became interested in the executive of the club and over the years she filled every position including President. The position she liked best, though was the Rules Chairperson and the more she learned the rules the more she became interested in competitive golf. She made her first provincial team in 1970.
Edith Dean has represented Newfoundland and Labrador a total of 22 times in National Golf Championships. Edith was a member of 3 Provincial Amateur Teams and 19 Provincial Teams. She has won the Provincial Championship on 9 occasions.
In her own words, Mrs. Dean says “it’s the happiest time I am when I’m playing golf.”
