Hugh Wadden - Athlete

Hugh Wadden is a native of Port Morien, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia where he played his early organized hockey. He joined the Buchans Miners of the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League in 1953 and has been an outstanding resident of that community ever since. He played with the Miners until 1967 and was playing coach in 1965, 1966 and 1967. He was bench coach in 1968 and 1969. During his career with the Miners that won two Herder Memorial Trophies as provincial champions, his leadership is credited with playing a major role in these titles. In 1959 he scored five goals in one game against Grand Falls. Following his retirement as a player he continued in hockey in various minor, junior and intermediate executive positions. He is also known for his success in various sailing competitions.
