Patricia “Trish” Dwyer, a Bell Island Native, is known as one of the most successful women curlers in Newfoundland and Labrador history. Among all her individual and team accomplishments in her curling career she always competed on an elite level as a player and coach.
From 1976 to 1990, Patricia Dwyer was a member of the Sue Anne Bartlett Curling Rink who was named Newfoundland and Labrador “Team of the Year” in 1979. In 1980 and 1981 she was a member of the Gary Herbert Rink attending the Newfoundland and Labrador mixed curling championships, where the team placed second.
Patricia Dwyer participated in eight Canadian Women’s Curling Championships, making it to the championship game on two occasions. She has accomplished so much in her curling career because of her love for the game and passion to excel.
She was inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Curling Hall of Fame in 1985, the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Bell Island Hall of Fame in 1995. Patricia was also named Labrador Female Athlete of the Year in 1986. In addition to all of her athletic accomplishments, Patricia was a certified curling instructor, where she spent time coaching junior curlers in Labrador City.
In 1989, Patricia coached the Newfoundland Junior Women’s championship team, where she was then named Newfoundland Curling Coach of the Year in 1990. Patricia Dwyer leads by example as a dedicated, committed and hard working Newfoundland and Labrador athlete and coach.
