St. Bon’s was known for many years all over Newfoundland as one of the most dominating and effective sports organizations in the Province. Their achievements in sport especially senior hockey has helped fill the record books of the Province. From the early 1900’s St. Bon’s participated in all of the major sports as track and field, soccer, baseball, basketball, rowing and hockey. Their many records in track and field lasted for decades and some are still records to be broken. In the early 50’s and 60’s St. Bon’s dominated the basketball scene and have numerous championships to their credit. St. Bon’s can best be remembered for their legendary achievements in the hockey rink. No team in any sport dominated a sport as St. Bon’s did in hockey. They won the City Championship for 26 years and literally owned the Boyle Trophy for a quarter of a century. They represented the City of St. John’s for many years in All Newfoundland Hockey competitions and won their share of championships against some of the best provincial teams.
While many of us remember St. Bon’s for their hockey dynasty it should be said that their contribution to sport in the Province may be equalled but none were better.
