Tom Williams’ main accomplishments came in tennis but the St. John’s lawyer was also a renowned table tennis champion and in later years excelled in curling.
During a 10-year period starting in 1946, Williams won 16 provincial tennis championships. He emerged as a singles winner in 1946, ’47, ’48 and was a member of the men’s doubles champions in 1946, ’50, ’51, ’53, ’55 and shared the mixed doubles in 1946, ’47, ’48, ’49, ’50, ’51 and ’52.
He was also the triple crown winner in the 1970 Provincial Veterans Tournament.
In table tennis he won the St. John’s singles championship in 1943 to 1947, inclusive. His career started at St. Bon’s College in 1937 and continued up until the mid 1950s when he was very prominent in competitions involving U.S. servicemen as well as local stars.
