In June, members of the SportNL team returned to Happy Valley–Goose Bay for our Game on Labrador community event. This three-day visit was an opportunity to connect with the Labrador sport community, strengthen relationships, and learn from the people who make sport possible every day.
We believe that strong sport communities are built through connection, and this event allowed us to build stronger ties within Labrador. Spending time in the community allows us to hear directly from local voices and better understand how SportNL can continue supporting sport across the region.
Throughout the visit, those connections took many forms. We met with local student-athletes during the inaugural Happy Valley–Goose Bay Youth Advisory Group meeting, welcomed community members to an evening town hall, spent time with students at Queen of Peace Middle School, and delivered an NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills course for coaches, recreation staff, volunteers, and parents. Every conversation offered a unique perspective and reinforced the value of being present in the communities we serve.
The time we spent in Labrador will continue to shape our work long after the visit has ended. We are grateful to everyone who welcomed us so warmly, shared their perspectives, and helped make this year’s event such a meaningful experience.
We look forward to continuing these conversations and returning to Labrador again soon!
