Sport Newfoundland and Labrador marks National Concussion Awareness Week, September 21–28, 2025, a time to raise awareness about concussions in sport and recreation and share valuable resources.
Concussions can affect anyone, in any sport or activity. Knowing the signs, understanding how to respond, and having the right information is essential. Here are tools and resources to help athletes, coaches, and parents recognize, manage, and prevent concussions effectively.
- Parachute Canada
- Canada’s national charity dedicated to injury prevention with professional resources.
- Canadian Guideline on Concussion
- This guideline helps athletes, coaches, and healthcare providers understand how to prevent, spot, and manage concussions, ensuring safe care and a healthy return to sport.
- SIRC Concussion Resources
- The Sport Information Research Centre offers concussion resources featuring the latest research, best practices, and tools to support education, policy, and protocol development.
- Making Headway in Sport e-Learning
- The National Coaching Certification Program’s free Making Head Way in Sport course helps coaches, parents, and athletes understand concussions and gives coaches the skills to keep athletes safe.
- CRT6 Tool
- The Concussion Recognition Tool 6 (CRT6) is to be used by non-medically trained individuals for the identification and immediate management of suspected concussion. It is not designed to diagnose concussion.
