SportNL is calling for applications for the Women and Gender Equity in Coaching Community of Practice and Mentorship Project.

In partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada, the Women and Gender Equity in Coaching Community of Practice and Mentorship Project will focus on raising awareness, providing education opportunities and practical experiences, accessing expert presenters and training, engaging in monthly meetings and knowledge sharing, developing legacy documentation including policy changes, innovative programs, conference presentations and publications.

Two Provincial Sport Organizations will be selected to be part of the project, putting forward one mentor and one mentee pairing from your respective sport.

Applicant Criteria:

  • Must be a Provincial Sport Organization in good standing with SportNL
  • Mentees must be self-identifying women, non-binary women to be selected
  • Mentors may be of any gender, though self-identifying women, non-binary women are strongly encouraged
  • Mentor and Mentee pairings are required to attend a mandatory 2-day in-person training event January 14-15th, 2025 in Ottawa, ON (travel expenses are covered)
  • Mentor must be entered into the Comp Intro Pathway (preferred)
  • Mentee should have Comp sport specific content certification

Expectations and Responsibilities of the Mentor/Mentee:

  • Mentor and Mentee will attend 2-day in person kick off meeting January 14-15th in Ottawa ON
  • Mentor will:
    • Receive a $400 a month honorarium
    • Attend a monthly meeting (virtual) with SportNL
    • Complete Bi-monthly and Final Report
  • Mentor/Mentee will:
    • Complete a Long-term development Plan. Mentee experiences should include Daily Training environment, Competition Environment, Regular and consistent meetings with Mentor.
    • Participate in online surveys and interviews by a third party
    • Participate in education and training sessions in Year Two.

The deadline to submit expression of interest is December 2nd, 2024. Following the deadline, staff will review, assess and identify the organizations for the project. The project will run from December 2024- March 2026.
