Sport Development Coordinator/Communications Assistant: Internship

Position Overview

The Sport Development Coordinator/Communications Assistant Internship provides an exciting opportunity for a motivated and creative individual to gain hands-on experience in event planning, digital communications, content development, and stakeholder engagement. Working closely with the Communications Manager and Sport Development coordinator, the Assistant will support the implementation of SportNL events and communications plan and contribute to a strong and consistent organizational brand presence. 

This is a paid internship position. 

Key Responsibilities 

Under the guidance of the Communications Manager, the Sport development coordinator/Communications Assistant will: 

  • Assist in the development and delivery of communication initiatives aligned with SportNL’s Communications Plan and strategic plan. 
  • Support the creation of social media content, website updates, and digital newsletters to engage and inform members and stakeholders. 
  • Contribute to the design and execution of marketing materials, graphics, and promotional resources. 
  • Participate in the planning and drafting of written communications, including program updates, announcements, and member-focused materials. 
  • Help manage SportNL’s online presence by monitoring engagement, organizing content calendars, and identifying opportunities for improvement. 
  • Assist with the preparation, distribution, and analysis of member surveys as part of the development of an online Member Portal. 
  • Conduct basic research and gather information to support communication initiatives and projects. 
  • Collaborate with staff across the organization to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment. 
  • Provide operational and administration assistance to all SportNL programs 
  • Assistant in the planning and executing core SportNL events 

Qualifications & Skills 

  • Currently enrolled in a program in Communications, Business, Journalism or Sport Management (equivalencies will be considered) 
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills. 
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and digital communication tools. 
  • Experience with basic graphic design and website software (e.g., Canva, Wordpress) is considered an asset. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Interest in sport, community development, or non-profit work is an asset.
