Inducted 2025
Michael Summers has dedicated over forty years to the sport of boxing in Newfoundland and Labrador and across Canada.
His journey began in 1980, when the fourteen-year-old from St. John’s first stepped into the ring. Over the next six years, he competed in thirty-eight bouts, representing his province at two National Championships and the Canada Winter Games in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec.
After hanging up his gloves, he spent some time coaching at the TRC Boxing Club — but soon discovered his true calling as an official.
Through hard work and dedication, Michael rose to become one of Boxing Canada’s most respected referees and judges. Over the past three decades, he has earned the distinction of a Three-Star Official, working countless events here at home, more than twenty National Championships, and four Canada Winter Games.
On the international stage, Michael has represented Canada at fourteen major competitions, including the World Championships in China, the South American Games in Colombia, the Commonwealth Games in India, and the Pan American Games in Mexico. In 2014, he was honoured as Official of the Tournament at the Belgrade Winners Tournament in Serbia.
Beyond officiating, Michael served as President of Boxing Newfoundland and Labrador for nineteen years, and in 2017, he was elected Eastern Director of Boxing Canada. Michael’s lifelong dedication to the sport was recognized in 2022 with his induction into the Boxing Canada Hall of Fame.
