Joe Wadden played a prominent role in the revival of baseball in St. John’s as a major sport.
Born in St. John’s, he served as secretary-treasurer of the St. John’s Baseball League from 1947 until his death in 1965 and filled the same position with the Newfoundland Baseball Association. He also served in various positions with the NABA during his years in baseball.
In addition to his contribution as a builder, Wadden was an outstanding baseball player being an all-star and most valuable player with Holy Cross squads. He was also one of the province’s finest bowlers.
Wadden also served for many years on the St. John’s Regatta Committee and was a long-standing member of the Holy Cross Athletic Association.
