Gillian Grant, born in Glasgow, Scotland, competed in race walking, cross-country skiing, golf, cycling, running, water polo, rowing, triathlon and swimming during her impressive athletic career.
Besides competing across Canada, Gillian competed in World Championships in Spain and championships in Mexico, Scotland and the United States. She is currently the Provincial record holder for the 3000 and 5000 meters in race walking and was the Provincial Junior Golf Champion in 1971.
Gillian has twice won the Provincial cross-country ski marathon and had two age group 1st place finishes. Her name appears on The Arthur Baker Memorial Trophy six times as a member of winning teams in Provincial Marathons (top 3 members).
In Triathlon, Gillian has five age group titles and one overall title in St. John’s. She has two overall and three age group wins in Corner Brook.
Gillian was a member of the Provincial Championship water polo team in 1977. In running, she competed regularly from 1978 – 1989 and had many top finishes. She had a second place finish in 1989 Provincial road race in cycling.
In 1981, Gillian won the St. John’s and Provincial Athlete of the Year honours. Truly a versatile athlete, Gillian was able to excel in whatever athletic endeavour she pursued.
