Winifred ‘Win’ McNamara is the first female to be voted into the provincial hall of fame, after a remarkable career in golf and curling. She was provincial golf champion in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1976, and 1977. She was a member of the Newfoundland team at national amateur and senior competition for 15 years and a member of the Bally Haly team that won the gross score provincial tournaments from 1970 to 1979. She served as president of the provincial golf association and was an executive member for eight years and filled the important role of chairman of the organizing committee when the first national ladies golf championships were held in St. John’s in 1979. In curling, she skipped many rinks from Bally Haly during the 1960’s and 1970’s and participated in many provincial and inter-town bonspiels. In 1965 she skipped the inter-town championship rink and headed rinks that won the Chalker Cup in 1968, the Landrigan Cup in 1979 and the Bally Haly Ladies Championship in 1980.
