Rev. Brother G.I. Moore is best known for his outstanding work as president of the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation. He was its first president in 1969 and held that position for eight years. Under his leadership the federation became a driving force behind amateur sports within the province. At the national level he served as vice-president of the Canadian Federation of Provincial School Athletic Associations for two years and was elected president in 1975. He was the first chairman of the Canada Games Park Commission and is a former vice-president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Amateur Sports Federation. As a coach he recorded a remarkable record. He won two basketball championships in New York City and one in Corner Brook; he headed five championship soccer teams in St. John’s and was coach of five championship hockey teams in Grand Falls.
