James A. Clancy, J.P. - Builder

Jim Clancy was a prominent sports figure and a tireless worker in city organizations. His activities included work with the public and charitable associations.

He was best known for his devotion to the St. John’s Regatta Committee which he served as Secretary from 1930 to 1946 and as Vice-President from 1947 to 1964. He was associated with the Children’s Playground for thirty years. Other organizations in which he played a prominent role were: The A.A.A., St. Joseph’s Boy Scouts, St. John’s Baseball, Football and Basketball Leagues. His work was tremendous and people will never know how much he really did.

The contribution Jimmy Clancy made to sports in Newfoundland will never be surpassed. There are many more organizations that he was involved in, but as a builder of sport and youth, he had no peer.
