Bill has represented Newfoundland at nine National Curling Championships. He represented Newfoundland at the Brier five times, three times as a team member and twice as a skip. In the 1969 Brier he was named by his peers as the most gentlemanly player exemplifying good conduct and sportsmanship. For this he received the Ross Harstone Award.
In 1975 Bill was inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame and in 1978 was inducted into the Governor General’s Elite Curling Club.
In recent years Bill skipped his own rink in the Canadian National Senior Championships representing the province in 1981, 1982 and 1983.
In addition to Bill’s achievements on the ice he played an important role in promoting and organizing the sport of curling. He served on the executive of the Newfoundland Curling Association for seven years and as President for the years 1971, 1972 and 1973. He was General Chairman for the National Seniors Championships held in St. John’s in 1984. Bill has also served on a number of national committees of the CCA including the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
It can be said of Bill Piercey that he has given freely of his time for many years for the betterment of curling in our province.
